Thursday’s Reflection

June 14th, 2007

Today’s show and tell was really fun!  I enjoyed watching each groups presentation.  I sat and thought how I was going to use this in my own classroom, and could visualize lots of different ways.  I think I’ll go home and try out some of the things the groups talked about so I don’t forget how to do them.  I was so glad I was in the interactive smartboard group.  Although I don’t have a smartboard now, when I get one (and I WILL get one) I will feel so much more comfortable.  I’m glad I have a file to go to to help me walk through tasks.  I also enjoyed watching everyone’s movies!  They were all so different!  Overall, a very good week.

Wednesday’s reflection

Today was a day that I want to say “yes” because I picked up a few ideas that I know I will put to use in my classroom this year!  A few of them came about accidentally, but nevertheless, I plan to use them!  The first being a mapping story.  I plan to have the students draw a picture of their homes, including things around their house.  This will probably be one day.  The second day, I will ask them to think of something they like to do anywhere around or in their house and write about it. The next two ideas were simple, little things.  I loved the decorated Kleenex boxes I happened to “eagle eye” in the Prairie Lands Writing office.  I plan to have the students put a quote of two sides of the box.  I think I will use this when I am teaching quotation marks.  I also liked the idea of customizing the journals the students will be using everyday.   The found poem idea is also a keeper.  I enjoyed brainstorming with peers good phrases to use on a Golden Lines list.  We discussed this would be a great lesson to just grab and go.  Michele’s three voice writing story was truly inspirational to me.  I was so impressed!  I’m so proud to be teaching with such a talented writer.  What a great day!

Tuesday’s reflection

I am so excited about the movie maker program!  I can see me playing with this as an educator, and also as a mom.  I like the way you can add your own “color commentary” along the way.  I think I may even try this on the first day of school and title it just that, The First Day of 3rd Grade!  I think the kids would like to watch the movie on one of those long winter days when it seems like you need something to change the pace a little.  I also know that it always seems like the first of the school year is so HOT, it would be fun to play on one of those days where the snow is blowing and we are all fighting for good spots by the heater.  This was my first attempt at movie maker and I can’t wait to share it with my daughter.  I can see the ”free space” on my computer diminishing as I am thinking about it.  I think it is one of those things that the more you work with it, the better it will get.  I’m anxious to start playing!!!

Reflection

Right now, I can’t really imagine blogging with my students.  I know from past experiences, just trying to have my students actually publish a piece of writing on the computer can be a challenging experience.  This is due in large part to the fact that they have not had keyboarding yet.  I’m sure with the right project it would probably be okay, or if we were an emints classroom and computer access was a bit easier it would probably be more rewarding.  Right now, I’m afraid I would have a hard time devoting much time to it when they are this age.

Take me to cool Bermuda Sand

I want to relax, forget.

Take me to cool Bermuda Sand

No worries, no anxiety.

Take me to cool Bermuda Sand

Peaceful, calming.

Take me to cool Bermuda Sand
